I have learned a lot about technology when creating my production, purely on the basis that i have never blogged before, therefore it was all new to me. I used a variety of new things such as the canon 550D camera, which in all honestly i have used before, but i have never researched in depth how to achieve the best image, or the image in which was intended to be captured. Also photoshop has been a new experience for me to use, i am still not 100% confident i can use it to the programmes best ability, but i definitely attempted it, and endured endless tutorials on how to improve.
Looking back at my Preliminary Task, the changes that can be seen are quite significant. In order to create my preliminary i just looked at basic front covers, with a basic contents page. This did not really require any working knowledge of photoshop, and since i have looked at photoshop tutorials on how to create a better image i believe i have improved by a great amount. I believe i achieved this as well by aiming my magazine at a particular group which allowed me to focus on how to attract it, where as with the preliminary i just created a basic design, that of which was not aimed at any particular group as such. IN WHAT WAY DOES YOUR MEDIA PRODUCT CHALLENGE THE CODES AND CONVENTIONS OF A REAL MEDIA PRODUCT?15/4/2014 My media production challenges the theory of wolf that women are portrayed in such a way to attract men, and to therefore be objectified to satisfy the males gazing eye. I have gone against this by having my main image of two people who look as though they are play fighting. This goes against it because i have not sexualised the female model in the image.
This also goes against his theory in another manner due to the fact i also attract a female audience, the magazine is not just aimed at the male population, this is shown through the language and the slight feminine touch throughout the magazine itself, where as the magazines such as MAXIM make it quite apparent although they may appeal to women, they are definitely attempting to engage the mens attention by having the images highly sexualised and very provocative. My magazine is supposedly representing the social group "indie" that of which consists of slight quirkiness and simplicity with the outlook of the final image. This is shown with my front cover, the fact there is a lack of sell lines and cover lines creates a main focus on the image of the artists.
I personally feel that magazine front covers all have the same "seriousness" to them, the facial expressions always try to obtain authority and dominance through out the images. Therefore i wanted to go against this and have quite a fun image to attract my audience. The use of language is associated with the social groups i am aiming at, especially the age groups ranging from 15-30 because its not too complicated that the readers lose interest with the frustration of attempting to decipher the text, but it has some language that may appear a little formal, only due to the fact i believed the text sounded better when read with that particular wording. The company that distributes music magazines such as Kerrang is called Bauer, they distribute their magazines in stores such as Tesco, Asda, Sainsbury's the major stores that are well known through out the country. They are all distributed in corner shops, therefore the continuous appearance of the magazine lures in a wider audience.
I believe this is a good company to distribute CFMITY because the tradition music it represents is what i have attempted to portray and represent throughout my magazine. Bauer currently has synergy between many aspects of the media, some being the television and advertisement on there as well as the radio stations. This allows the promoter to be further well known. Yet promotes the bands with a good media aspect. I would have no doubt that Bauer would be able to promote CFMITY without any major issues, due to the music that is promoted being quite similar, if not basically the same, their target audience would not really alter. Therefore there would be no loss in the fact they will be promoting a new magazine. I attracted my target audience (indie) mainly by the outfit choice of clothing i have put the people modelling for me in, because they are alternative, but not to the point where it can cause a serious eruption of opinions to surface. I included some festivals and World known artists in my magazine because this also helps with the targeted audience because that attracts them to purchase and maybe show my product to others, which will then hopefully lead to a wider distribution of the product.
After looking at Magazines such as NME and INDIE i gained the knowledge that the double spread is mainly on a particular artist or group on their aspirations to become more successful in the line of business they have signed themselves up for. This creates a connection between the reader and artist because it sets up the relationship between them. Therefore to target my audience i decided to do a double page spread on the artist Tiff Whyatt, the dress of this artist attracts both female and male because its a fun photo that represents her, as well as the text being a key insight to the success of her career and how she wishes to further that and pursue it in the ongoing future. WHO WOULD BE THE AUDIENCE FOR YOUR MEDIA PRODUCT - EVALUATION QUESTION
I have made my target audience people ranging from the age 15-30, this is due to the complexity in the language sometimes, because i believe although i have written the articles in a relaxed manor, which should appeal to all ages, there is some language that may cause slight confusion with people of an even younger generation. I have made the age bracket up to the age of 30 because i looked at some bands with a similar music outlet to the music i intended to portray in my magazine, bands such as the Arctic Monkeys. Alot of their fan base online is of people ranging from roughly the same ages i gave, so i thought it was a reasonable age group to be aiming my magazine at. I also believe my magazine is suited to both female and male, because it does not come across as a magazine that favours a particular sex to be the audience. The music has both men and women in it, therefore the audience is more widely spread. Also the front cover of my magazine is of both male and female, therefore it targets both sexes, also the image i have chosen is quite playful therefore can attract the younger audience as well, due to the slight sex appeal being minimized. It is also aimed at people who enjoy alternative music, going to festivals and maybe even the modern day "indie" fashion.
This is my double page spread, it comes in two pieces only due to the fact i was not able to download my full double page spread as the file capacity exceeded the limit.Unfortunately this files size capacity is too large to download, but i have sent it to my media teacher to resolve this issue hopefully. |
